The Phoenix Zoo

The Phoenix Zoo is one of the largest privately owned zoos in the country. Located near the Phoenix/Tempe border it is within a short drive of Mesa, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek and other towns.
The zoo is open every day of the year, but I prefer late fall or early spring. It now has several great play areas, one with a water play area, a tree house, and many places to just sit and relax.
The cost for a family of 4 membership equals about 14 cents a day, for a year.

Here are some pictures from a recent trip to the zoo, some of the animals were hiding. This happens in the heat.

In the petting zoo, goats and sheep to brush.

Fear Factor for kids? No, just roaches, scorpions, and snakes, Oh, My!!!
A plexiglass doam to stick your head in and get a close up look at these giant cockroaches. This is in the nocturnal room.

Flamingos

A perfect location for the mountain animals. In their natural habitat, way up on the mountain. Quarter viewers are available.

A shy prairie dog, wouldn't face the camera!

The zoo entrance is a bridge over a lake, where the turtles like to sun themselves on logs.
