Mesa area Storms
2005

This is a graphics intense page

2005 has been a hot summer, and we got very little rain. We waited and waited for the storms to come. We saw clouds rarely, and at our house it has only rained twice, and sprinkled a few times.
There were several evenings in August when we could sit outside and it felt nice, the storms would come so close that we felt the cool air, even though we didn't get rain.

I love to see a good dust storm.. at least from afar.

It was just about 3:30 in the afternoon, on September 1st, 2005. I was picking up our 10 yr old, and saw what appeared to be smoke in the distance. I asked my 16 yr old what he thought, he said it looked like dust. By the time we got home, I had decided to go to the bridge I had always considered a good spot to catch a picture of a storm like this. I ran in and grabbed my camera. There were messges from our 14 yr old, asking me if I saw the dust storm and our 19 yr old son called from work.. to tell me to go out and look at the storm. My kids sure do know me...
I didn't see the news that evening. I didn't hear the dimensions or know if this dust storm qualified as a Haboob. I do know it seemed to have layers, it appeared to me to be two dust storms, one behind the other.

This first one is taken from the stop light headed south on Harris at Southern, by the Mesa High school parking lot.

These were taken from the Superstition freeway overpass on Harris street.

Looking East

Looking southwest, this appeared to be a strange looking dust devil, mixing with the bigger storm.

Looking North over the overpass.

In early August we had one real hard storm that came and went within hours.
Roads were flooded and dry again within a couple of hours.

This is on East Broadway, near Lindsey.

This is at Robson Elementary school.

This is Lindsey Road, just south of Broadway.
